A Last Hurrah Kebab Party

In case you are wondering, there was a real meal served in between bellinis and peachy desserts at our shindig last week. Most of the recipes came from this cool website, called Cookstr? With all these great recipes from chefs and cookbook authors? Maybe you’ve heard of it? Anyway, here’s what we ate.

We started with enough tarragon-infused and chive-garnished deviled eggs to make a chicken nervous.

And crudites with a spinach-leek dip I’ve been fantasizing about, and which I enlisted my friend Leigh to make, which lived up to all expectations. “Souffle-like” was was Leigh aptly called the texture.  (And PS in case you’re wondering who took all the fab photos, it’s Dave, Leigh’s husband. Good friends who make dip and take crisp food photography? Is it any wonder we want them at every party?)

Then it was kebab city, with beef for the carnivores:

Heaps of chicken kebabs, which had been marinated in a lemon-rosemary marinade:

For the beefy kebabs I did a simple orzo with olive oil and a bit of balsamic, and for the chicken, a lemony orzo with fresh herbs.  And a Boston lettuce salad with my current dressing obsession, ranch.

Perfect tomatoes, from our neighbor’s garden, sliced up with mozzarella and basil:

A pile of sweet corn, and then after, a little platoon of peach crostatas, previously aforementioned. And some brownies, brought by a friend, and devoured before they had their close up.

What I can’t believe is that in a couple of days it’s Rosh Hashana…there’s something mentally challenging about moving from fresh tomatoes and corn to brisket in one week, but that’s September for you.
