A Chance to Win Free Tickets to the New York Wine & Food Festival!

September 27, 2010

If you live in New York City, or are going to be here on October 7-11, and are craving foodie-esque excitement, then there is no place else to be except the New York City Wine & Food Festival. Created just two years ago as the New York version of the perennially popular South Beach Wine & Food Festival, it is one of the biggest, dizziest whirlwinds of chef/wine/food parties going on.

Cookstr is a media sponsor of the event, and because of that we have some treats for you.

First, a chance to win free tickets (free tickets! all right!). Here’s what we’ve got to give:

-Two (2) tickets to Sweet hosted by Duff Goldman and Sandra Lee

-Two (2) tickets to Dim Sum & Disco Brunch hosted by Ming Tsai and Joe Ng at China Grill

-Two (2) tickets to Grand Tasting (Sunday Session 1)

-Two (2) tickets to Grand Tasting (Sunday Session 2)

To enter for a chance to win a pair of these tickets, all you have to do is go to the comments section of this blog post and tell us which Cookstr recipe you’re aiming to tackle next, or which one you’ve enjoyed recently. That’s it. We just want to know what you’re cooking.

There will be four winners, chosen randomly, and each will get a pair of tickets to one of the four events. Last chance to enter is October 4th at 5:00, and we will pick the winners on October 5th, let everyone know, and tell the lucky food mavens how to pick up their tickets at the Festival.*

And all of you can get a special 15% discount on tickets to the Cooking Channel’s Meatpacking Uncorked neighborhood-wide tasting. Wander around this uber-hip NYC area and sample dishes from the neighborhood restaurants, glug some fine wine, and rub elbows with chefs from the Cooking Channel, all while checking out the various street performances taking place throughout the area. Click here to purchase your tickets, enter the code UNCORK15 when you check out, and the discount will be applied to your total.

And just so’s you know, the Festival raises buckets of money for Share Our Strength and Food Bank For New York–100% of the net proceeds from the Festival go to these organizations. In the past two years, over $2 million has been raised, and this year’s event will be the biggest yet. Nice to know that you can do something good while you’re having a good time.

To all of our Cookstr visitors, THANK YOU, and hope to see you at the Festival.

*This Sweepstakes is run by Cookstr.com and ends at 5:00 pm on 10/4/10. The winner will be chosen at random. This sweepstakes is open only to U.S. residents and void where prohibited by applicable law.

I’m going to next try Bolognese Polenta and Apple Cake. I picked apples last week and am trying out some new recipes that use apples.

I actually just made my shopping list to include my latest cookstr tackle! I am currently 7 months pregnant, so there is no telling what is going to end up coming out of my kitchen these days. However, this weeks venture is going to be (drum roll please…..) Maple Pumpkin Cheesecake!! Not only does this satisfy my need for pumpkin, sweets, and my favorite food of all CHEESECAKE, but it also let’s me try something new that may get incorporated into this year’s Thanksgiving festivities! Fingers crossed hoping I can’t mess this one up too bad!

How cute is this! We are actually going to be in NYC that weekend for our first anniversary.

I am going to make the tomato jam I found on your site. http://www.cookstr.com/recipes/tomato-jam. With the end of summer I have some tomatoes, peppers and basil to use up.

Thanks for the great recipes, keep them coming!

I suppose I could be referred to as a “Charter Member” of Cookstr. having signed on when you first created this site.
I have so many favorites; but one of the ones I am looking forward to next trying are the Pumpkin Applesauce muffins, one of the current ones by Nina Simmonds. We love anything pumpkin. There are so, so many favorites but Rocco DiSpirito’s No Cream-No Cry Penne alla Vodka also sounds intruiging (sounds like No Vodka, too!)
We would love to attend the New York City Wine & Food Festival.

Thank you and looking forward to many more wonderful recipes from some of my favorite chefs on Cookstr.

I will be in NY during that time promoting my latest book — Farmers’ Market Desserts (http://tinyurl.com/yar3t8v) .

It would be fantastic to have the chance to stop by the NY Wine & Food Festival!

With apples popping up in farmers’ markets, Victoria Blashford-Snell and Brigitte Hafner’s Viennese Apple Strudel is calling.

    Happy baking!

I made Nigella’s orange muffins this morning and brought them into work — the platter was licked clean, and I didn’t even get a muffin! Tonight I’m going to make the radishes in dijon vinaigrette recipe because it’s 95 degrees here in the SF Bay area and it’s the END OF SEPTEMBER!!!!

Love the huge variety of recipes here —

Muffuletta New Orleans rock n’ roll!! They sent me right back to Central Grocery, though actually finding muffuletta bread can be a bit tricky. Nola’s muffaletta bread recipe is next on my list to give a whirl.

    Hi!
I’ll be making the wonderful Sheila Lukins Short Ribs http://www.cookstr.com/recipes/braised-short-ribs-of-beef I was so sorry we lost her last year and I think making this as a tribute would be something she would appreciate.
Finally, here in NY we see the possibility of crisp air, falling leaves and a stew on the stove. This is my favorite time of year and it’s made even better with this type of recipe. I will probably use part oxtail along with the short ribs for even more mouth feel. Yum! I may also use some red wine. I can never leave a recipe well enough alone! 🙂
I hope to win. I’ve been so busy with this time of year I wasn’t sure if I’d get to attend.
    Pick me! Pick me! Please.

For being such a foodie, I am the worst cook ever! My boyfriend is italian and I wanted to surprise him with something edible, and decided to tackle the Lasagna al Forno. Baking terrifies me, and it turned out a bit in the soupy side (my fault!), but it was delicious.

I want to try Tiramisu next, seems easy enough? 😉

I am going to try the No Cream-No Cry Penne alla Vodka next. What makes this recipe even more challenging is living in an apartment with no kitchen. The pasta will have to be cooked in a convection oven/microwave and the rest in an electric frying pan. Wish me luck!

First of all, I want to thank you for the wonderful website where I can always find a perfect recipe for any dish I have in mind. Thanks to your website I tried to make my very own cassoulet (recipe by Victoria Blashford-Snell and Brigitte Hafner). It came out delicious, almost like the one we tried during our vacation in France.

My next recipe from Cookstr will be the Squash and Gorgonzola Tart that is featured today as a recipe of the day. I have a small piece of Gorgonzola left after the party, and it’s interesting to see how it will pair with the squash, I have never tasted this combination before.

I’m going to be making the stir-fried ginger shrimp with snow-peas. [by Diane Rossen Worthinton.] This sounded so delicious–I coped the recipe into my file of new recipes to try–it’s working it’s way up in the rotation. 😉 I’ll probably substitute a healthier option like quinoa for the rice, but the combination of flavours make this recipe so appealing–in fact it might have to be on tonight’s menu!
